Inspiration for the VC Historiques 1955

A Vacheron Constantin 6099, this example from 1957, it has never been polished as confirmed to me by VC, and you are unlikely to see such a crisp example around. A quick look at Chrono 24 will show you how easy it is to lose the definition on those lugs. This model was introduced in 1955 as part of the three tricentennial models. It's ultra-thin, at 5mm, with the legendary 1003 calibre based on a JLC ébauche, and was in recent times reintroduced as the Historiques 1955 with the same movement crafted in gold with a display caseback. The lug design is from the Maltese Cross used by VC for many years. The dial is a rare stardust dial, with gold-flecked enamel, so it glistens as you move it around.

Love the shiny things on the dial!

It's a beauty alright. Some of the old ones have held up well, the decent ones aren't that expensive but those in really good condition are quite "reassuringly" expensive.

This was acquired in the depths of the pandemic at a very tiny auctionhouse - let's just say you would have to spend more today on buying a Hamilton Khaki Murph, so it was somewhat of a bargain!
