Watch Swap

Image

This is my idea to help those with acquisition disorders and to enrich myself.

  1. Customer (or guest if you prefer, but it's you) takes unloved watch and puts it in a box and sends it to PO Box 900 Los Angeles, CA 90212

  2. I, or some underpaid minion, assesses watch value and grabs some other watch of slightly lesser value that was sent in by some other shlub.

  3. It gets but in a box (or padded envelope if it's really crappy) and sent to you.

  4. ???

  5. Profit!

  6. You enjoy your new to you watch (optional).

Special (any) requests will not be honored. No warranties implied. It may take a while for something comparable to arrive in stock, but the bread and butter of this venture will probably be <$300 stuff.

Don't actually send anything yet. This is just a feeler. Well, feel free to send me money, but mainly I'm asking who wants to do this and how do I profit while doing no work. Or just steal the idea. I don't care.

I have a few that I'd send for nothing in return if someone else pays the shipping😀

Honestly, it's a great idea. I'd bet that lots of people would get lots of utility from the novelty.

Why would anyone want to swap a watch for one they haven't chosen themselves that's worth less?? 🤯

I'm not sure I follow this. I think he's losing the surprise factor, and of course this doesn't put money in my pocket, but I might email him despite his fairly high starting point.

People think I'm joking when I say I can't give watches away, but you seem to know the truth. The interested parties always end up being on the other side of an ocean where the shipping costs become prohibitive.

Perhaps you missed the part where I said "people with acquisition disorders." Apparently this is not you, but you'd be shocked, shocked to learn that there are people that are irrational, impulsive, make bad decisions, have too much stuff and still want more, and I see that nobody has asked about how to send me money yet.

A. If every trade involves something of lesser value...

B. Then, it will be a race to the bottom...

C. And inevitably, everyone will soon be trading Daniel Wellingtons.

That is the watch collecting purgatory that we all deserve.

I'm thinking of requiring self-addressed stamped envelopes and maybe $5 cash. Last watch I shipped I didn't bother insuring.

I am Laughing Out Loud so hard that I'm spelling out the actual words, none of this "lol" stuff.

Thank you for putting this up. It's hilarious, although I would daresay equally as good as some business ventures you see in 2023.
