The battery on my Vaer C3 was probably dead when I put it on this morning. I noticed mid-morning. There is a place nearby that carries most watch size batteries and charges a fair price (usually under $2) unlike those other shysters that want $5-7 for one.
Since Vaer, exemplars of customer service in many other ways, didn't print the battery size on the case back (pro-tip: do that) or even list the size on the website, I had to do further googling I found it was a 363 battery. Yeah, what? Needless to say, not carried locally.
So while I very much like the Vaer, I wouldn't say it's my favorite or my first choice. Until now. Now I really want to wear it and appreciate it as my total fave. Because it is unavailable.
I chose not to do this as a poll because I don't want scores of alerts every hour when someone votes. But is this "absence make the heart grow fonder" thing with watches common? I normally wear it maybe once a week. The new battery will be here in that time. I'm missing nothing. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and the stupid heart wants what it cannot have.
Yes, I could go around wearing a watch that does not display the correct time almost all day, but I'm not that kind of buffoon. Oh, tags for this thread are available for rent. Inquire within.

It is funny that not being able to do something makes it far more desirable.
I don't think about the joy of cooking supper when I wake up at home, but when I'm on the road the desire to cook what I want, how I want it, is quite powerful.
In the words of the immortal Mr. Spock, "having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting....it is not logical, but it is often true".
Time cures all...wear another watch in the meantime. At minimum it takes your mind off off of the wait.

Funny that you mention this since this afternoon I was thinking of another type of rental;
What if you could rent a watch for 1 week ? I guess you would still buy some but those would be the ones that you absolute love.

Breitling had some odd Watch Netflix thing where you could sign out whatever "pre-owned" watch they had for however long if you paid some subscription. I haven't heard of it lately. The general suspicion was that this was for poseurs that couldn't afford to buy for real. I suspect the main problem is the peevishness of most towards signs of use. Everybody wants their new watch to be a total virgin or else expects a substantial discount (except for friggin Rolex, where eternal appreciation is just accepted).
