I had the same 6 months ago, got a DateJustII back from service and kept it in its box since to feel out if I wanted to let it go. Turns out I don´t, so it´s back in use. :-)
Hang on to yours, there was a reason you got it in the first palce.
I would personally never feel bad about not getting noticed. I wore a vintage datejust before and currently have a datejustII in my collection and it goes by very stealthy. :-)
I do appreciate it when people who are into watches notices and you can have a conversation about watches in general.

Echoing others I know, but white dial dress watch would be cool. I recently got the Santos medium and really like it. I would say, don't write if off until you try it on the wrist.
maybe also something like the more dressing IWCs would be a good option, Portugieser or Portofino?
