why are rolex watch so thin and tudor so fat

Why are Rolex watches so thin, but all the Tudor watches so fat.

Even the Tudor Black Bay Pro is so chunky, yet the Rolex Explorer is so thin?

In a previous post, before you deleted it, you said you know more than watches than anyone here? Not going to make many friends doing that. Hopefully, this is helpful regardless.

It comes down to movement and crystal in this case. You are comparing a GMT to a time-only complication. The MT5652 is a thicker movement to account for the true GMT mechanism and hand. It is also over a MM thicker than a comparable GMT movement found in the EXII or a GMT Master II. So if you meant why is it thicker than an EXII (not the Explorer)? You are talking watches 2-3X the price with a much different movement. Similar to curves on cars; complicated thin movements cost more money.

Throw in a domed vs. flat crystal there is your total size difference.

The Tudor equivalent to the  Explorer is the BB 36. Comparison:

  • BB36: 36mm x 44mm ; Thickness. 10.5mm ; Lug Width. 19mm
  • EX: 36mm x 44mm ; Thickness. 12mm ; Lug Width. 20mm.
