The Casio F105-W, The Icon’s brighter brother

The Casio F91-W is undeniably an icon. The little digital watch is recognizable from a distance and brings back some nostalgia for a lot of us. There are however some shortcomings that other Casio models try to improve upon, one of these models is the F105-W Illuminator. As the name suggests, it uses the Illuminator backlighting which makes the whole display light up in a bright blue colour making it very readable at a glance compared to the uninspiring backlight LED of the F91-W.

There are some other small but noticeable differences too. The F105-W has exposed lugs so changing out the silicone strap for a NATO one is a breeze, it is also a bit chunkier than the F91-W by about 1mm in all directions. Unfortunately, the watch does not come in all the different colour ways the icon comes in and might also not strike the nostalgia as much, but those are some compromises I’m willing to take. What do you think are some interesting F91-W alternatives or improvements?

I bought mine last semester because I needed something unintrusive to quickly read the time at a glance while taking engineering exams. I’ve since put it on a grey NATO, and I’ve enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would at first. It has really got a lot of wrist time.

Yes, it's an 18mm grey NATO with black PVD hardware I got from mksnatostraps. It was only £7.50 and fits great.

Thank you for sharing this information. I love the grey strap with the F105-W very very classy.
