I say it's oddball, because it has a Japanese movement. Most M-T you see brandish the "Swiss Made" badge( for whatever that's worth), with a Swiss movement. This was a gift from a high school girlfriend and was never worn. When I left for college, it was then packed away. I was reunited with it last year, so I emailed M-T and inquired about it. Their response said that any watches with a Japan movement were made for a brief time in the '70s, and meant for the US market only. They also said they kept very little records on them. This doesn't make a lot of sense because of the timeline. Here's the possible scenarios:

A) The customer service rep at M-T was wrong/misinformed. (We're all human.)

B) It's a fake. (Unlikely, since it was probably purchased at a mall jewelry store.)

C) My HS girlfriend gave me an unused 15-20 year old watch from her dad's collection as a Christmas gift.

Option C made the most sense to me, until I started seeing other "JAPAN MOVT" M-Ts appearing on ebay, some even stating they were from the same time period (1990-95). Now I'm leaning towards option A.

It's a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. 😂

Thank you, Kostas. This one is as I originally received it in the 90s.

You should keep that quiet, Lawrence. Your ex-GF dad might be on the Crunch.. you wouldn't want him demanding his watch back 😉
