That's my favorite watch shown today. Alba? Grid dial? Is it new or an older one? Do you know its model no.?

Thanks for posting it.

Thank you! It was a recent find. Nothing fancy, but I love the linen dial. It ended up having a faulty quickset day/date, so I swapped in a replacement movement from a Pulsar, since it's no longer in production. I'm not sure if Alba follows the same serial number guidelines as Seiko, but plugging it into the decoder tells me that it is no older than 1980. The model number is Y563-8080 (movement/case code).

Thank you so much! The dial was mostly the reason why I bought it.

Thank you for the info, I figured it was an older one. I don't think many Albas leave Japan. Although I recently bought a new Alba AEFD557 Solar field watch, and it is a little jewel. Why a field watch dial would be finished like a little jewel I couldn't say, but it is. Maybe its blacker-than-black dial was made that way to take advantage of all solar energy directed at it. And it has a blasted case and really comfortable plastic strap. All for $60.

I can see why you love the dial. People can say what they want about Seiko, but from Alba to Credor they can make a fantastic dial in every single price range, and no other manufacturer can do that. I'm glad you got the quickset going again too, because now you not only have the great look but the watch is operating at 100%.

Someone had recently posted an Alba field watch on here, maybe on the WRUW. Was that you? Looked very much like a Seiko SNZG, with a Kanji day wheel. I liked it a lot. You're right about Seiko dials, they really are something special.
