Q: How did you get into watch collecting?
I'm a tech guy, but after 3 smartwatches breaking on me I decided to get a traditional watch. I had no idea how much a mechanical watch was. 1k? 3k? Once I realized I could get a good mechanical for the price of a smartwatch, I did my research and bought a red Orient Kamasu. The rest is history!
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
I remember saving my allowance in elementary school and bought a talking Goofy watch. It broke soon after. I suppose that could be foreshadowing my experience with smartwatches...
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
Last year I brought a black and gold Seiko Prospex on a trip with friends. We drove to Atchison Kansas, rented a haunted mansion and spent the night. It was quite the experience, and since then I have always thought of that Seiko as my "haunted house watch."
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Do your research! It's always satisfying finding something you've been hunting for a great price. Or maybe you find one even better or cooler than what you were looking for! It never hurts to read reviews and makes a new watch all the sweeter when you know you've already crossed off all alternatives!
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Baltic is the first one that comes to my mind. Traska is the second. They both make some beautiful quality pieces! For luxury watches, I'm the weird guy that prefers Tudor. I think they're fantastic watches with decent prices!
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Black/gold Tudor Black Bay 58 on a black/gold NATO 😍
