Brands on the rise

I have though for a long time that zenith, GP and GO are the three most underrated brands for the fit and finish and over all quality you get for the money, specifically on the second hand market. Resale on these watches are really poor I think due to brand reconciliation. I feel in the comm info decade at least one of these brands is likely to break out of their poor resale slump. Curious to get your thoughts on this and if there are any other brands you think have poor resale that are an absolute bargain on the secondary market. If I were to pick a fiery out on this three I would say JLC but I think These three brands represent even a little better value than they do.

I don’t really consider resale when looking at a watch. I’ve never sold one. I buy to keep.

My experiences with Zenith and GP occurred a very long time ago in the late 80s and early 90s, recently picked up a Zenith Chronomaster Sport with a steel bezel, have no plans to source a GP, tempted with GO which I have heard lots of positive reports about including from a service clerk at the Swatch service centre when I needed to repair a bracelet on my Omega. The moonphase GO is a possible addition but I personally do not anticipate any increases in the prices that pre owned watches from those brands happening. It is not important to me since I keep my watches, just a personal perspective.

Hope to add a Chronomaster Sport someday but the occasional try-on will have to do for now

I'd pick a GO SeaQ over a Submariner, a Zenith Chronomaster Sport over a Daytona and a GP Laureato over a Royal Oak any day, but even with them being underrated and priced accordingly on the pre-loved market I'm nowhere near getting one of them...

I agree 💯 on zenith and GO with comps but I may still like the RO a little better than laureato. But dollar for dollar Laureato all day!

Interesting question. I don't really have any experience with GP, never handled one, so won't comment there, and note I don't currently have any of these. That being said, in regards to Zenith specifically I don't get the impression that it's underrated, almost every review I've ever read on Zenith is positive. But I do think they are less popular. If you haven't seen it already Mike over at This Watch That Watch has some very good thoughts on Zenith as a brand in his video last week talking aobut the new triple calendar. The Chronomaster Sport has been on my wish list for a while, but I recently got the opportunity to try one in the metal for the first time and there were too many negatives for me compared to the competition at that price point. But I will say that almost all of the Elite series from the 90's and 200's really appeal to me, for example (03.2120.685/02.C498) which I think is a bargain on the pre-owned market under $4,000 USD. GO overall just makes fantastic products, and I think most reviews state that. The Panomatic Lunar is at the top of my list to get. Again, I don't think they are underrated, just not nearly as popular as most other brands. Again stealing from Mike, they don't really have a big hitter in their lineup. Zenith has Chronosport, which is very popular, Rolex has Daytona, Chopard has the Alpine Eagle, Tag Heuer has the Carrera collection, etc.....They don't really have anything in that mid tier sports watch to bring people into the brand, which I think is hindering them from growing. I also don't think they get a lot of help from Swatch as the parent company, that love is felt elsewhere (Omega, Longines, Hamilton, etc..). Just my opinion.
