Received a watch without realising what you have got

Has anyone ever acquired a watch without realising what you have received. I did, a couple of years ago I popped into a charity shop just to see if they've got anything interesting. They had a couple of Seiko 5's which I said I would buy. I got chatting to the manageress and after she had heard my life story and I was also a watch geek, she said she's got some broken ones in the back of the shop did I want them and thought 1 or 2 of them were Seikos. I thank her and paid for the watches which I purchased plus made a goodwill donation in the box for the broken ones. And a couple of weeks later I had the Time to have a fiddle and pulled out of the bag a Grand Seiko 1966.

I never go past a charity shop without putting my head around the door but with no luck, I guess It's 1 in 1000.

Brilliant find! I think most charity shops around me are fairly savvy at googling watches to see what's worth what, so no bargains for me so far. Some of the bigger chains also have central valuers that review any jewelry etc so they don't let anything slip through too cheep. I have however scavenged nice straps and bracelets off cheap-o charity shop watches 👍 Your story has inspired me to keep looking! 😁

It is always worth having a look but I know now there are professional people constantly popping in to charity shops to buy goods to sell at car boot sales Et cetera. I think it just was because the manageress knew it was a Seiko rather than a known Swiss make, and a lot of luck.
