This just came in the post tonight so thought I would share it immediately ๐๐๐ because I canโt be bothered typing I shot a quick video. Iโm not a watch reviewer and donโt want to be, it just seemed the easier option! Let me know what you think.

What is a fake GMT?
What is a fake GMT?
๐ I think youโre messing with me but just incase youโre notโฆ..A โTRUEโ or โTravelerโ GMT works differently to a Desk GMT. So Seiko 5 is a desk GMT Rolex GMT is a true GMT. The mechanism of a TRUE GMT is more complex than a desk GMT so tend to be expensive.

All of those sound like GMTs to me as they all display GMT.
The first GMT of all time, the Glycine Airman, would be a fake GMT using that definition. Do you mean a Rolex-style GMT?
For me best value TRUE GMT is this one:
#traska #truegmt

Two time zones on this one. The Marloe has 3. This looks cool though. Just seen they are also sold out so not available. Similar price though

Not my terminology my friend if you prefer to split hairs then travellers v desk is another option for you. They are different movements do need different terms. If you donโt care then thatโs cool but some do. 90% of people will want a desk GMT, travelling I certainly donโt.

How is a rotating bezel relevant? Sure, a Rolex GMT has one as does the first GMT watch, the Glycine Airman, but there are plenty of other GMT designs out there and variety is the spice of life.

Ah I see, it's a specific type of GMT you're talking about. In what way is the desk type a fake GMT?
The traveller's vs desk terminology sounds more accurate than true vs fake.
I make no judgement about either type or the people who use them. Both the Glycine Airman and the GMT Master were designed for airline pilots and they tend to travel a fair bit in their employment.

The rotation on the bezel allows the tracking of a 3rd time zone. I travel a far bit so you can look at the timE where I am, home time and by rotating the bezel the time zone for my sister in Australia. The Rolex GMT II does this as does the Tudor and a lot of others but when you go under ยฃ1000 there is hardly any on the market. Iโm not sure what your point is though, maybe I should have put a question mark on the title (oh actually I did) however Iโm not trying to wind anyone up.

Iโm not sure of the origin of the term True GMT, itโs not mine it seems to be an industry definition but they are 2 completely different movements.

This "true GMT" expression sounds like a watch industry marketing term to me. It seems a bit unfair on the "office" style GMT to call it that given it was used in space and an astronaut is more of a "traveller" than any earth-bound human!

No idea but in terms of complexity there is a bid difference between the 2 so my guess this was how it started I.e. the proper GMT is the jumping hour and linked to the PamAm Rolex story, where as the desk GMT is a far simpler and cheaper movement to manufacture. There are definitely not the same though.

Thanks for clarifying. So the question is "which is the best GMT watch with an independently adjustable local hour hand and the ability to track three separate time zones?" Or "which is the best watch which has the same configuration as the Rolex GMT Master?"
In that case the Traska posted wouldn't qualify, though I find it a bit harsh to claim it's not a GMT watch because it differs from the Rolex configuration.
First other Marloe owner I've seen on here, I think. Here's my Pacific 52. Cheers!

Thatโs nice! They are doing some cool stuff, they remind me a bit on Fares with colour etc.
Thanks for the review - I appreciate getting Cruncher's takes on new, interesting and affordable watches.

When we talk about "True" GMT, it is related to the movement not the design and the Traska use one, so it qualify ๐

Not according to the OP. According to the OP, a "true" GMT must also have a rotating bezel and the ability to display three time zones.
From the long discussion above my personal conclusion is that "true" GMT is a misleading term as there is no such thing as a "false" GMT. It is unfortunate that this inaccurate term has become widespread.
"Traveller" and "desk" descriptions are only slightly less misleading given that so-called "desk" GMTs have been designed for and used by astronauts and airline pilots, the very definition of travellers.
Does this guy look like he's just been wearing his GMT at a desk?

Not again hahahaha this thread was supposed to be about an affordable TRUE/TRAVELER GMT not about anything else. The Traska is a 2 zone TRUE/TRAVELER GMT which is great and I might have bought it but guess what!!! Itโs SOLD OUT so thatโs as much good to me as a chocolate fireguard hahahaha if you canโt buy it it doesnโt count! Also guess what I canโt buy a ROLEX either so they donโt count. So PLEASE get to your point! If itโs the difference between TRUE/TRAVELER GMT and DESK GMTs then guess what I donโt care! I donโt want a desk GMT and I donโt care who else bought one or wears one. Desk GMTs are cool but I didnโt want that type of movement. I travel and as itโs me operating the watch and not you and I find it better. I think there was enough traffic yesterday explaining the two movements and the difference between them. The title I put up still stands show me a list that does what this watch does for the same or similar money.

The pilots I know use TRUE GMTs not desk.

I see you've edited your initial comment about the Traska which was "no rotating bezel though" or similar. So does it now qualify as a "true" GMT?
"True GMT" is a logical fallacy because therefore is no such thing as a false GMT. It also implies that one type of GMT is superior to others when that is subjective and a matter of personal preference.
The pilots I know use TRUE GMTs not desk.
And here is an astronaut wearing a desk GMT
Traska is a true GMT. The bezel is an added function. Again you make a complete useless pointโฆ. you canโt buy it! Itโs sold out. It no longer exists! I might as well by a sundial why do you keep post pictures of astronauts? Why is this relevant to my post? One again I donโt care what others wear. I wanted a TRUE GMT not a DESK GMT so what exactly are you trying to make? If itโs about the difference between the two movements please start your own post and take it elsewhere.
@Markell
The cheapest True GMT but I don't really like the look ;-) :

I already have the Traska.

Yeh I did see this one but wanted a rotating 24 bezel. The MIDI is also a good alternative but it has a divers bezel ๐คจ
IMHO, the Marloe is not the best value travellersโ GMT โ this is:
All of the features of the Marloe with 300M WR, a fully lumed dial, a ceramic bidirectional bezel and for nearly $300 less ($529).

I would agree however itโs sold out so does it count? I like it in blue which seems to still be in stock. All in all I agree this is better than the Marloe at least in the pics and specs.

Actually cancel that as all models are sold out apparently, so can you say something is better when you canโt actually buy it?

Regardless of whether it is sold out or not, your question was whether the Marloe represents the best value GMT. The answer is no. The Zelos sold out (and sold out more quickly) because it came from a well-respected microbrand with a history of successfully producing pieces and being at a better price than the Marloe. The Marloe is a nice piece for what it is, but when comparing it to other pieces on the market, it costs more than competitors which have already launched, or which are coming out, like the Borealis Estoril, which is on pre-order and can be had with similar specs to the Zelos for $500 total:

All good points, totally agree. The Borealis only has two time Zones. The Z has an internal chapter ring so for me thatโs got the nod on the Borealis. Also the Z design is good. I think a lot more will drop soon and make this whole subject redundant. In only a matter of weeks more models have come online, Iโm sure there will be better to come. Also I never said the Marloe was the best, I included a few question mark so we could get suggestions on other models.
