Trade Down

  • Did you ever wish you purchased a brand’s less expensive model? I own the Aqua Terra and like it but it has a fallen out of the line up. I could see myself enjoying the De Ville much more. I am about to say something taboo — I like this model De Ville more than many of the GS models.

It does look beautiful and I would wear it over an Aqua Terra

I think a lot of folks run into this. They see and fall and love with a beautiful watch and realize after a while that it does not get any of their references, has the opposite (wrong) taste in music, and simply does not fit their lifestyle. I kid, kind of. It is quite easy to think in spirit that wearing an amazing dress watch every day is going to be the watch, only to realize it does not really work with one's lifestyle, whether it has evolved since then or not. The beauty of it being a watch, is you can make that trade without worrying about hurting someone's feelings or thinking of the time lost during the journey. :-)

There is one thing that has puzzled me for a while about the Omega SM Aqua Terra 150 line, hopefully some one here can shed some lights on …

For instance, Omega Seamaster AT models are priced at a premium. Generally higher than SM 300 and at par or even higher than SM 600, but both 300 and 600 Seamasters cost more to make part by part with higher water proof ratings. Why ?

I visted the local Omaga boutique recently and did quite a few side by side comparisons between many AT & 300/600 models, even the sales director there couldn’t explain why. He just said 300s are big sellers for the SM line, followed by 600s.

On this particular AT model, why a small second hand on a casual sporty watch, and a date window at 6 o’clock to ruin it ?

The goal is to build a collection that you love. If you are trading a watch to get something you like better, it's not trading down. It's building the collection that you are happiest with.
