The Obligatory Intro Post

Hello WatchCrunch! Tom here introducing myself to the forum.  Saw Max on TheTube and thought I would give the fourm a try. Getting a bit tired of the "dinke" crowd.

I'm a retired Air Force MSgt currently working in the coffee industry in central Florida.

My collecting tastes run the gambit, but recently I've been chasing mid century Swiss pieces.  Good value for $ and awesome brand history.

Hello, and welcome! Any particular brands from the mid-century specifically? Or just Swiss watches from that era?

Thank you for your service and welcome!

What watch in your collection is your most worn?

·

Why is your avatar a Ferroseed?  The reason I know?  Because I have spent like 80 hours on Pokemon Go! trying to help my 9 year-old level up!

Mid-century Swiss you say? I like the cut of your jib.

WC has a one in, one out rule: @Omeganut has to go.

I'm a real fan of mid century Omega, but at the more reasonable end of the spectrum I like Longines, Certina, Movado, and Universal Geneve.  This weekend in Philadelphia I picked up a 50's Record Geneve in awesome condition on Jewlers Row that I'm just startin to researc .  Trying to figure out the ref number.

My most worn is my daily driver SKX009.  I work in logistics and move lots of stuff to lots of places all day. Can't kill an SKX.

I hope the one in one out rule doesn't apply to watches or I'll be ejected from this jet in short order.

Nice! I have dipped my fingers into the vintage market on eBay, but only in the '70s and '80s digital market. I have briefly looked into the vintage mechanical market for a vintage Seiko, but the sheer volume of Mumbai Frankenwatch specials made me realize how treacherous the online vintage market can be without a good knowledge base, which I do not have in sufficient size. 😀

My best sorce for vintage Seiko has always been pawn shops. Many pawn shops will buy any mechanical Seiko and they be had for a song in many cases. Couple years ago I was pawn shop surfing and found a 1972 Seiko DX with the TV case, on the original "disco" bracelet. $45 out the door and the guy was happy to be rid if it because it had been in his shop for years.

You are safe there. There are some here that could fill a jacuzzi with watches.
