Won the lottery today!

Well, a little lottery anyway...

I've wanted to try Steinhart for a while as they have a good reputation for what they are, so I decided that the Ocean 39 vintage GMT "Special OLKO edition" was the one for me. I signed up for the restock notification a couple of months ago and kept my eye out for one on Ebay.

I get an email from Olga this morning-

I just got a few Ocean 39 vintage GMT special OLKO edition with date magnifier into my online shop.

I will put this watches online at 6pm German time.

If you want one then hurry up and buy!!!

Wow 6PM German time? Damn, when's that?

German time is GMT +1, I'm GMT -4, plus DST, carry the one, divide by the inverse, adjust for the Coriolis effect... that's in three minutes! (Actually I just Googled it) Logged on and the still showed out of stock. Hit the refesh a couple of times and it showed in stock. Put it in the cart, paid, and by the time I checked again they were out of stock again. Don't know how many she had, but couldn't have been many.

The process kind of reminded me of the way people talk about the Smiths/Timefactors buying frenzy.

Hoping to see it soon. I'd like an original 1655, but I do want a watch to everyday wear, not one worth a nice used Porsche...

Nice! I also got lucky with one of these. I had an old tab open on the webpage that I happened to open while closing some other tabs, and when it refreshed, it said “in stock”. I quickly tried to buy it and the order went through! It was immediately out of stock after that. It arrived about a week or so later. It’s a nice watch. Enjoy!

I won a little lottery with the help of Watch Crunch. I was looking here late at night while I was working midnight shift. Someone posted a new Stowa limited edition release so I went the site to have a look. It let me put #1 of 95 in my cart. I couldn’t believe I could actually buy #1 of any limited edition so I checked out.

A few months later, my new Stowa arrived.

Just wanted to add a quick note.

Ordered the watch on Sunday at 1PM EST (6PM German time) and received it today at 12:30PM. Less than 4 days from Germany via FedEx.

Got it sized up which was an easy task with the screw links. The bracelet was nicer than expected and one thing is certain- you don't have to worry if you're a big guy. The full bracelet measures 9.125"! I had to take out two full links and two half links to accommodate my 7.75" wrist.

I'm sure I'll post more about it, but for now everything looks good.

I went through the exact same process about two months ago. I love, LOVE the watch!!

And, BTW, this is a much better watch than the old 1655 Rolex. I had one! Plastic crystal, stamped clasp and fold-over, orange hand NOT independently adjustable, stamped end links and center links, etc., etc. This Steiny pays great homage to it....then beats the pants off it for actual quality!

Enjoy the pickup!

To be fair, there's about 50 years difference in manufacturing processes between when the original was produced and the present.

Yes, this is true. But the fact remains that I paid about $850 for the original 1655 Rolex back in 1978, and they are going (in great shape) for about $30,000 today.

The superior Steinhart can be had for about $500.
