Yes, it's a little unusual but I read an article somewhere about Seikos that are sold primarily for the Japanese market, and that started my search.
There are so many microbrands out there, and at so many price points that it's difficult to choose just one. I've been shifting away from AVI-8 which was my go-to for work, but once I got my orange Nodus Canyon, I've been really digging their watches.
