Family watch

Most affordable and the most valuable watch in my collection by a long shot.

This Seiko 5 7009 series is my grandfather’s watch. He got it from the Serbian army upon retirement as a tank mechanic. Engraved on the back is the text “ for 40 years of service “ with his initials.

He continued working as a mechanic after retirement and always had this watch on while he was working on friends and family cars. This Seiko was not babied by any means, it actually had so many scratches when i got it, it was hard to see the dial and tell time. I took it to my watch guy, had it serviced and had crystal replaced and the watch is almost like new.

My Grandfather unfortunately passed away in 2008 shortly after I moved to the States and this is one of many memories of him I still carry daily.

The watch itself represents the foundation of what Seiko is as a brand. No nonsense, great quality, low maintenance and extremely affordable. At 37mm, black dial, super light, the watch disappears on the wrist. To anyone who hasn’t owned a basic Seiko 5, I would highly recommend it. Its simple but has everything you need from a watch.

I think this is the biggest pull for me in this hobby. The meaning behind these watches can transcend most other objects we pass down.

Beautiful watch. ♥️

Beautiful story, thank you for sharing Aleksandar. This is precisely what I love about watches, they are built (even the affordable ones) to transcend the very thing they measure.
