My First Vintage Watch - I Got Lucky!

A real noob at the time, influenced by YouTube and a bit of research. I have always been partial to chronographs and when I came across the Seiko 6138-0011 Speedtimer, I was hooked!

I found a listing on EBay for a decent price, and thankfully the seller was very responsive. Said this belonged to a retired Boeing engineer who’s estate had a sale when he picked it up.

A bit disappointed when I got it and it started running really slow. Luckily, I had already found Dan Blair on YT and he was still taking clients at the time. It had too much oil (when it was last serviced) and Dan had it back to me good as new!

I still can’t believe I have this piece from 1976, and it’s mostly my Sunday watch.

I just bought my first vintage watch for my birthday. It’s an orient Tristar with hidden lug that came out in the 80s and the original owner bought in 1989 in a thrift store which is my birth year. It got some history to it. Then it was sold to an eBay seller/collector in orient due to the ukrain/russian war. The watch seems like it was illegally imported to the Ukraine back then since the model dial have an English/german layout for the day.

The condition on this looks really good on this. I’m sure it probably got polish, but it is okay. I don’t mind making my own scratches on it to make it more personal for me.

The watch is on it’s way to me at the moment from Ukraine couple days before my birthday . Can’t wait to see it in person.

Congratulations and that’s a cool find. I absolutely love when a watch has a story behind it. Enjoy!
