Both are quartz, the first from 1990, the second from 2010. I don’t  specifically collect quartz, but I love the slimness, low-maintenance accuracy, and resistance to shock and magnetism.  The fact that they both looked good didn’t hurt either :)

Fantastic choices - what’s the model number of the third one with lumed markers and hands?

My first automatic was an Orient Mako. My grail soon afterwards became the Milgauss, mainly because of the strange green crystal and orange lightning bolt seconds hand.  It took nearly 15 years, but I finally got one at list price with a whole lot of luck and some generous help from relatives and friends.  So count me in as insane…

I have automatics at this price range, and they usually have pretty solid Miyota 9 series movements or Sellitas.  I enjoy them — but I don’t like to wear them when I anticipate activities that involve jarring vibration to the arms (biking) or repeated and prolonged exposures to magnetic fields (my workplace).  In those cases, I find the quartz to be quite handy. Casio (including Oceanus), Citizen, and Seiko quartzes would fit the bill. $500 is a reasonoble amount to get a good quality watch with either type of movement, so I would look more at the contexts for wearing this watch.  Best of luck!

I am a new member who was previously posting on the WUS forum, where I saw a fair amount of negativity and snark. The final impetus for me to join WatchCrunch was when I read about a long-time member from Australia (he used to spearhead the daily “Watch R U Wearing“ segment) being banned for mysterious reasons, and his supporters getting banned as well — hardly sounds like a “community.”

I look forward to spending more time here and recapturing the joy and positivity that should characterize this hobby!
