What Makes a Watch Great Part 3

1st let me start out by saying I am not an expert or an authority on the matter. These are my observations and opinions. I also welcome your additions and opinions. This is more of an exercise to assist people with having a checklist to go through when making decisions on aquiring a new watch. Things that make a watch great usually include many of the following - these are not in any order. 1. Unique design, if it is being copied by other brands there's a reason. 2. Watch enthusiasts generally agree that it is a great watch. 3. The movement is proven to be accurate and enduring. (if you are willing to swap movements on your own when less reliable ones fail it maybe less important) 4. Quality materials and finishing. 5. Watch was an innovation of some type. 6. Historical significance 7. Watch was worn in a movie or by a person that is reveared. - maybe debatable. 8. Water resistance- and should have at least some but should fit with what the watch is meant to do. 9. Name, heritage, and merit of the brand and people behind it. 10. Performance fit - for instance if it is a field watch can it stand up to the challenge and have the correct look, and specifications? Ok that's 10 which is a pretty good start. The following list is more about what makes a watch a great watch for you which I consider different than it being a great watch overall. 1. Do you like it? 2. Is there a personal connection to it. This can make really any watch your greatest watch. 3. Does it fit you the way you like. There are brands that for me are almost all their watches are entirely too small or large for me. It makes me a bit sad because honestly it excluded people from owning some great watches. Because they wouldn't be a great watch for you. 4. Price - definitely determines if it is a great watch for you. I think there could be a discussion on if it actually is a determining factor on it having anything to do with a watch being great or not. A nice price though is usually a part of me feeling like I have a great watch. 5. Does it fit your style and life? If not even though it may be a great watch it isn't a great watch for you. Ok that's all I can think of for the moment. I don't want to go over straps and bracelets but obviously they should of great quality and be appropriately matched to the form and function intended for the watch and also match the individuals wishes. Ok let's see what I got wrong and what I left out. This was ment to be pretty basic but hopefully helpful for someone. I also want to hear from other watch enthusiast what these things are. These are very important topics I think to discuss with each other and I want to take advantage of the opportunity to gather this intelligence from all of you. It also may be very helpful for those just starting out.🍻
