I broke two of my rules....

... and unfortunately, it is probably not that uncommon, I am sure you can connect:

  1. I wanted to get slower on buying, especially since there are two more Kickstarter watches coming this and next month and my collection is anyway too big to give them all enough wrist time,

  2. I normally do not spend much more than €500 on a single piece (main reasons are that I want to be a little careful with my money and that I do not feel too well walking around with more expensive watches on my wrist).

However, due to a special occasion which is related to extra money, I decided to spend some of it on a more expensive purchase without getting crazy as a kind of reward to myself.

So, I looked around a bit and came across a type I would definitely never need but do like somehow: the super compressor (-style) watch. These were the candidates and they are all sub €1,500, some more, some less:

  1. Farer Endeavour Ti Series II

  2. Christopher Ward C65 Super Compressor

  3. Circula SuperSport

  4. A couple of others from Baltic, Boldr and Beaufort (much below the prices of the other three above)

Finally, I went with the Circula due to the fact that it is a real super compressor (no, I will never need 300m WR and the functionality), has good dimensions, has a bracelet and a rubber strap included and there were good reviews (even if a few only).

So, it arrived today and so far, I am more than happy that I moved out of my comfort zone, even a little bit only. But see yourself:

Thats why I don’t set any rules for myself.

1st Congratulations 🎉

Here’s what I do. I also try to stick around $400~$600, but anything south of 1K I will consider. And try to limit to 2~3 purchase per year.

As for Total Watches vs. Wrist Time. I have a display case with 12 slots. So I really think do I want to push one out of this 12 rotation to warrant the new purchase, and if the answer is YES, the older watch (which is usually one I’ve had for a while) will move to a 2nd (sentimental storage) box.

There maybe rare exceptions, and I have given a few to my younger brother. But this way I get to buy watches that really connect with me as I only rotate the 12. I also don’t have/want/chase a Grail, and I much rather discover new Micros.

Thanks!

I like your approach and somehow do it the same way since a short while: 12 watches I regularly rotate and another box which carries sone beaters and dress watches I only wear very seldomly.

Unfortunately, I am not disciplined enough to keep the core to the 12 with the new one… but this is for another time to worry about. Now it is about enjoying the new piece…
