My First Auto GMT Watch (Seiko 5 GMT)

Hi everyone! This is my first post here.

Got bitten by the watch bug just this year and I've read enough to know that one of the perks of starting this hobby in 2022 is the ability to get an auto-GMT for less than $500.

I asked about this at my local Seiko dealer and was told that I needed to be put on the waiting list. Still unsure of whether or not to plonk more cash into this sinkhole of a hobby, I said why not. A day later, the AD gave me a call and said this was available. And not only available, she was giving me a 20% discount. Oh heck, why not, I thought. Plus she was kinda cute.

Other than being my first automatic GMT, this is also my first watch with a "traditional" bracelet. My other watches either have black bracelets, NATOs, silicone or leather straps. I've always felt that steel bracelets, especially jubilee bracelets, gave off a bit of an "uncle" vibe. But oh boy, I was wrong.

I think getting this in orange made all the difference. I don't feel like an uncle. I feel like an uncle straight out of the 70's rocking a Hawaii shirt and aviator sunglasses.

While I wish I had the swagger to rock a Hawaii shirt, most of my wardrobe consists of dark colours. I was apprehensive that the orange would clash with my black and blue shirts, but in the end, I think it complements my wardrobe really well! The orange adds the little "pop" I needed to round everything up nicely.

Anyways, I feel like a lot has already been said about the technical aspects of this watch. Thought I'd give a more personal take on buying one. Have a good week ahead, wherever you are!

Welcome & Enjoy! Great first auto GMT. Yout AD is cool for the heads up . Us "Uncle's" all live a great bracelet. Once you wear a great bracelet you need them in the line up. Everyone can rock a Hawaiian shirt! I was gifted the Magnum original print for Christmas this year. One of my favorite Aloha shirts!
