Yeah, ok, I did buy another watch this week… I have a problem… I know.

Thanks to the tail end of Black-Cyber-FriMonday Week-ocalypse , the Princeton was on sale and I couldn’t resist adding such a crazy thin (6.5mm!) minimalist piece to my collection, especially with the nice little bonus of being from a Chicago-based brand.

Is Wolfpoint a micro brand? Not really. Is it a “slap on a logo and drop ship from China” special like Daniel Wellington or MVMT? Hmmm… I don’t believe so. Honestly it seems like they’re somewhere in between. Regardless, I actually really like the branding and the logo is pretty cool in my opinion, as it represents the convergence of the three branches of the Chicago River known as, you guessed it, “Wolf Point”.

It wears really nicely and feels solidly made. It’s finished well and has some legit specs including:

  • A beautifully glossy enamel dial

  • Sapphire crystal with perhaps a bit of AR

  • Applied silver-plated indices and logo

  • Blue(d?) hands with capped pinion

  • A frankly fantastic Essex Horween leather strap (seriously, the strap is a standout. Way better than I’ve come to expect on a sub $200 watch. Bravo on that spec, Wolfpoint 👏)

It’s powered by a super thin Ronda quartz movement with no ticking seconds hand, which I love to see on any quartz dress watch.

It’s maybe a bit large at 40.5mm, but I love the austere Germanic styling, the nicely proportioned blue hands, the lack of ticking second, and of course, the Chicago connection.

I seem to have a habit of buying more dress watches than I really need, but I think this one will earn some solid wrist time with that super thin case and exceptional strap.

Minimalist dial for sure. Quite clean. As a fellow Chicagoan, thumbs up.
