My favorite off-duty activity was watching flight ops. Knowing that us nukes were sending steam up to the cats made it all with it. And, of course, I would have been wearing a gshock back then had they been invented. 😎

I was a blue water sailor on the Nimitz in the 70s. So, I’m old and my observations are old. I wasn’t much of a watch enthusiast back then and didn’t really pay attention to the watches other sailors were wearing. I always wore some sort of affordable mechanical Timex. It’s not like I exposed my watches to combat, but the engine room of an aircraft carrier can be pretty rough on a watch. I can tell you that were I onboard today, I would be wearing a Gshock square.

I sleep with one every night. Usually a Marathon Navigator or a Casio W217h. Just a habit I developed years ago in the Navy.
