SOTC 2023 (9 months collecting)

I started my journey around March 2023 and have had an absolute blast learning about the hobby, seeing other Crunchers’ collections, and establishing my own collection since then. I’d love to hear your thoughts, observations, and suggestions for potential next archetypes/colors/brands to target!

From top left:

  1. Seiko Presage “Sharp Edge”: This is my family watch. I bought this piece during a family trip to Japan this summer, and my dad got the blue GMT version at the same time.

  2. Certina DS Action Diver Titanium: This is my tool watch. With 300m of water resistance, a diver’s certification, and a light titanium case and bracelet, I know I can put this watch through anything.

  3. Seiko Baby Alpinist: This is my GADA watch. It was on my wrist for my entire aforementioned Japan trip, including taking a dip in Okinawan ocean waters and Hakone hot spring waters (prob not my smartest move… but hey it’s all about the memories right?).

  4. Omega Seamaster 120m: This is my dress watch. At 36mm in diameter and 10mm thick, this thing looks great on a number of different straps and can adapt to formal situations. I also won it in a charity auction right here on WC, so it’ll always have a little bit of extra meaning as a symbol of this awesome community!

  5. Omega Speedmaster Date: This is my heavy hitter. Neo-vintage, early 90’s, JDM, tritium markers, modified Valjoux 7750 movement, Speedy… this is a representation of how much I’ve learned and how far my collection has come in a relatively short period of time.

  6. Timex Weekender: This is my reminder watch. It reminds me that sometimes a watch just needs to be reliable, well made, and legible, and that’s more than enough. Also- with how loudly it ticks, there’s no forgetting it’s on the wrist 😂

  7. Citizen Eco-Drive: This is my wedding watch. I’ve had it since long before I started getting into this hobby, but it is by far the most meaningful piece in the collection for obvious reasons.

  8. Seiko Quartz “PR-SQ” (that’s my nickname for it): This is my fun watch. Gold-tone, integrated bracelet, birth year, prism crystal… let’s party!

  9. Seiko 5 Sports “5KX”: This is my kickstarter watch. It was the first mechanical watch I ever bought, and kicked off my descent down the rabbit hole.

  10. Casio G-Shock “CasiOak”: This is my beater watch. ‘Nuff said.

Thanks for reading- Happy New Year everyone!

Fantastic collection, and amazing that you you’ve managed to assemble most of it in just nine months. Were there any that you bought that didn’t work out or have you kept everything?

As far as next steps maybe a look at the independent brands. You don’t yet have a GMT so maybe something like Christopher Ward’s C63 Sealander gmt? Or if you’d like a different type of complication Echo/Neutra have some field watches with moonphase complications I went with that and am really happy with it. These smaller brands can be a little tricky though as it can be tough to get hands on with them prior to purchasing. Good luck 👍.

Many thanks! A GMT is definitely on my shortlist, as is my first microbrand. Great suggestions!

Thanks! “Amazing” could be the right word choice… or “dangerously obsessed” 😆
