I have to agree totally about May, he has a great watch collection, really diverse, and is himself incredibly interesting if not rather detailed! But one comment on Hammond, while he does seem to favor Rolex, they are not the obvious flashy ones; after burning his Sea Dweller, he can be seen sporting a very nice pre-ceramic Pepsi. I am sure he could a) afford and b) get a shinny new one if he asked.

Hi, you can date the case by the hallmarks, the lion head means London assay office, the crown and 18 refer to the gold quality and the C refers to the year, I cannot make out the exact details in the photo but if you check London hallmarks for 1800’s you will be able to work it out.

This is a Waltham movement in an English silver case dated 1917, it belonged to my Grandfather but not sure he was the first owner.

And I have a Thos Russell pocket watch in a Elgin case, not sure of the date.

Congratulations - a lovely watch and would agree over the size. I was disappointed when the 39 was discontinued as preferred that to the 36 but as you say the 40 seems to have everything right. Also, things do seem to be coming out from AD's a lot fast at the moment.

I agree, the concept of value/price has changed dramatically, plus you do not have to go back that far to see it. I have been interested in a JLC Reverso and when I started looking in mid 2020 the model was around £5,500, the same watch today is £10,100. How?

commented on What do you think of Bremont? ·

I want to offer a slightly different viewpoint.

It seems that Bremont really is a marmite brand, I have one, so that must put me on the like side. It is a club version of the Airco which I really like and it came with built in history. Last year, I did the tour of The Wing, was really impressed, it was interesting to see their build process and how much everyone believed in the brand.

My Airco has a modified ETA movement but then so does my old Omega Seamaster. I like their case designs, they are different but fortunately, they fit my wrist size. I am intrigued by the new in-house H1 movement and am considering the Fury as a future purchase. I have yet to try their service dept but apparently excellent. I think the appointment of Davide Cerrato bodes well for their future.
