Hot takes from WindUp NYC

I popped into the Altman Building today to check out Wind Up Watch Fair. It was my first time seeing many of these brands in real life, and I want to highlight a few that exceeded my expectations. By that, I mean the quality of the watch was greater than what I expected from photos and videos.

Fortis: much, much better than I predicted, especially in terms tolerances and bezel performance.

Bravur: the Grand Tour is gorgeous and a lot more compact in real life.

C Ward: case and dial finishing really is incredible for the price. I know everyone already says that, but it’s true. I loved the Aquitaine.

Lorca: wasn’t expecting to be so smitten. The engraving on the bezel is so sharp, and the dial is fantastic.

Circula: GREAT tool watches. As good as my Sinns.

Love your takes on Bravur, Lorca and Circula, each of which I am a fan of. Glad you had a chance to attend Windup. Can't wait for it to come back to San Francisco next year!

Nice write up and I finally picked up my first CW, so I did my best to vote with my wallet. So many nice surprises there from some new Duckworth Prestex, the new Studio UnderdOg, the new Group B from Autodromo, and the new Dr. Pepper from Jack Mason. I tried on the Arcanaut which is such a cool dial, sadly, a little too large for my wrist.

You have to have seven Sinns—no more, no less. Those are the rules.

I also liked William Wood (got the fire watch). The Anordain are fantastic live. Picture on the web don’t show off the sparkle. Also, the new StudioUnderd0g are another option.
