My husband is really the one into watches - it was either "get divorced or get onboard". I thought onboard would be the cheaper option, but now I'm not so sure...
My bio jokes that it was via my husband - which is half true (he's really, really obsessed by them and has about 25 - mainly cheaper brands - but doesn't really do much social media). In reality though I have probably been a bit of a collector since a Swatch obsession as a teen in the late 80s/early 90s. I had 4 or 5 at one point (including two "pop Swatch models) and I still have the very first from 1987, as well as a more recent Irony. The rest fell along the wayside at some point
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
A small, red digital watch - possibly a Timex? It was a Christmas present when I was about 5 or 6 I think. I have no idea what happened to that watch!
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
It's not really an interesting story, but I do remember asking for a new watch one Christmas. This was in my Swatch phase and I thought I'd told my parents I DIDN'T want a Swatch but clearly there was some sort of miscommunication as that was what I opened on Christmas morning. I promptly burst into tears... but my parents returned the Swatch and I was allowed to pick my own replacement, which was a (German fashion watch) Rolf Cremer. I still have it but it's a bit temperamental so doesn't get much wrist time
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Take your time! Personally I enjoy the researching and window shopping more than actually making a purchase I think! Also the obvious one of going for what YOU enjoy.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
If I won the lottery tomorrow there are probably a couple of Farer models I would pull the trigger on - I love the colours. Having said this it's more about the models rather than a particular brand - I'm interested in anything that's a slightly smaller diameter but that's not obviously a traditional "women's" watch.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
I'm lucky enough to have recently purchased one of my grails - an Omega Seamaster Aquaterra. In my dreams I hanker after a 3-watch grail collection so to go with my GADA I'd have a dress watch like a Cartier plus the sports watch- something like a Yacht master 37. A girl can dream. *sigh*
