Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

Lusting after my grandfathers Rolex Oyster. Also I had a part time job delivering milk before going to college whilst doing A Levels. One of my customers was Ernest Jones. I loved having a look in the window each morning, looking at the displays by Tag Heuer and Omega.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

I had a Casio digital watch with the calculator on the front. Was very young, and I dont remember much about it. I also had a digital watch display in a pen which I loved as a youngster. Don’t remember wearing a watch as a youth though. I wonder how I got to places on time.

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

I purchased my first serious watch in 2003 when I turned 30, and it was an Omega Seamaster Professional 300m 2254.50. I sold it in June 2021, but bought it back last week (about a year later) for the same price that I sold it for. Instant buyers remorse and I don’t ever intend being without it in my collection again.i don’t wear it all that often, as I wore it daily for for 17 years without change. I was mad for a change and have a collection of 23 watches all but one of which have been added since Covid kicked off.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Spend more time planning than rushing in and buying any old watch. Dont listen to the Instahype. Buy what you like, and buy to wear, not to resell or to realise a profit. That way you won’t be disappointed.

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

Mr Jones, Studio Underdog, Norquain, Farer, Fears.

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

Omega Speedmaster - have always admired them and they look great on the wrist. I also hanker after a Rolex GMT Master II. Just seen the new White Dial Speedmaster. Ooof.
