Charles Dickens pocket watch at auction

An estimate of between £2,000 to £4,000.

Be interesting to see the result, I think it will go for a lot more.

Was just mulling that this morning and I am in agreement that it will go for plenty more.

When there is an association like this and the national publicity, the Auctioneers will guide it conservatively to entice as many bidders as they can knowing if it’s hotly contested the price tick on up (and they will pocket a handsome commission.

With auctioneers taking c.17.5% of the hammer price from both the seller and the buyer, that’s over a third of the “value realized” of everything they sell - a little eye watering to me.

Yeah, I'd expect it to go for far more than that!!

Well there’s only the one and there won’t be another.

It’s a museum piece for sure. I haven’t seen any reports as to who might have bought it.
