Smartwatch

I am very new to Watchcrunch and noticed there are no smartwatches shown. I have Apple Watch 8 and the Ultra and 4 Garmin’s 6X Fenix 7x Fenix. and 2 Epix 2nd gen. These are fantastic watches for me. Just curious I see no smartwatches.

There are not many who would even wear a smartwatch from what I can tell so far and I’m one of them. That’s not saying they are bad, it’s more the fact that they have an expiry date. But enjoy your passion for them.

Btw welcome to the crunch 😁

Pretty much the exact opposite of what most folks are into on this platform, there's the odd one or two but the majority of us see the smartwatch as the "enemy" as it's killing traditional Watchmaking & supporting "big tech"...

That’s a great response. It’s what I figured.

Simply put, they're a very different product, and a lot of what drives enthusiasm for watches among us weirdos doesn't really apply to them. "Watch" feels like the wrong word for them, to a lot of us. If you want a micro tablet and health monitor strapped to your wrist, then they're decent enough products, that's just not what most people here are looking for.

No offense intended mate, we welcome everyone here & who knows, we may even convert you 😂🖖🏻

No offense at all. I figured that was why they weren’t shown. They’re cool but I prefer the traditional watch over a smartwatch. Cheers

Understood 👍🏾

I'm all for something like a gshock or garmin that tracks steps etc but the problem people have with smart watches is the planned obsolescence of them. You can't hand a smart watch down to your children like you can any other watch, then when the updates stop eventually so does the smart watch.

Go back 50 years and change "smartwatch" to quartz.

I agree, smartwatches are fantastic tools, I have an Apple Watch, it’s good for what I need it to do. But, for me, it’s not something I look at or admire.

·

I'm neutral about them. I get the built-in obsolescence argument and I wouldn't buy one. But, what are they for? I assume they count your steps and your heart beat and stuff. And they tell you that you have an email; but presumably they're too small to show it to you. And they relay all that information back to Apple who then sell in on.

I'm not being facetious. What's the upside? That they look cool?

Oh and by the way, welcome to Watch Crunch!

I guess I’m a weirdo too.

A little late here but I’m waiting for this post to blow up

Not into them at all. The Mrs had something for about 18 months then binned it.

For me the biggest issue is that they look awful. Obviously that's subjective, but I don't even like digital readouts on my wrist and these black blobs have less going for them.

Second issue is that a PCB doesn't interest me. No mechanics, no appeal.

I absolutely love my Garmin as well. do you actively use all your Garmins?

I can’t imagine needing more than one and would only buy a new one if the old one breaks or malfunctions

Yes I wear them but don’t use the features in them.

Smart watches are truly a fantastic tool watch. I'm more into the mechanical watches. You are certainly welcome here

Just imagine you open the wrong door and suddenly travel back in time. How will you be able to charge a smart watch mate?
