Broken Tag

I took my Tag Heuer to a watchsmith because it wasn’t working. They just called and told me some part was worn out and the watch needs an overhaul. It’s gonna cost $750. For a watch a rarely ware I don’t think I should spend the money on that. And if I got it fixed doesn’t mean I’m suddenly going to wear it. What do you think?

Chronograph? Did they itemize the estimate?

You could consider wearing it even if it does not work. Who reads the time of their watches anyway? (I think that Andy Warhol said someting like that about his Cartier...)

Post a pic of the tag please.

Probably am. It’s a small shop. Probably need the biz. But it’s not gonna come from me. I’m not doing it. I at least had to find out why it wasn’t working.

Maybe sell it to someone who likes it as a project watch, so the watch has a chance to „live on“ and you can have a few bucks out of it instead of spending 750$.

Sounds like it’s time to let it go. You rarely wear it and if you fix it, you probably won’t still wear it. Or you fix it and gift it to a relative/friend that you want to get sucked into the rabbit hole of the watch world, if they’re worthy of spending $750 or sell it.

At least it is fixable, you have the option. The worst is when you get your watch kicked back saying there aren't any parts available or the watchmaker is too freaking lazy to find the part.

Buy a Victorinox for$750

The watch shop is legit. Small. A husband and wife that have run it for years. I know the repair will be top notch just don’t want to spend the loot on something I don’t use.

I know huh?

I literally just sent my calibre 16 Carrera in to Tag yesterday for the complete maintenance via an extremely reputable jeweler. It's going to be $550. If you know it's broken the $750 is probably legitimately what it will cost.

That’s what I’m thinking. It’s just a lot to spend on a watch I don’t wear.
