Q: How did you get into watch collecting?
A few years back my son wanted to get a nice watch so I did a little research to pick one out for him. From there I was hooked. I’ve always been a fan of mechanical things with rich histories behind them (think firearms, automobiles, and airplanes) and it occurred to me that watches also fit that bill.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
The first Watch I remember having (and could figure out the model) was a Citizen Wingman C080-088506 circa 1992 (I think).
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
Sadly no, but I hope to one day hand one down to my son.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Figure out what type of watches you like most and stick to it. Your collection will be much more focused as opposed to looking like a bunch of impulse buys.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
My main passion is for German watches. I like (and can afford) Laco and one day hope to be like my hero Steve McQueen and have a Hanhart 417 ES.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
My ultimate grail watch would be a Rolex GMT Pepsi. When you think of grail watch you think of Rolex. Must be some law of nature or something. But more realistically, my grail watch would be a Hanhart 427 ES that I purchase directly from the Hanhart factory in Gütenbach, Germany. Some day…
