I wanted a different watch for times when I considered it too dangerous for my Tag Heur Link, which was my daily. Then the whole collection bug whacked me straight in the face and it's stuck!
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
A Timex basic mechanical, although too long ago to remember the model. Alas I overwound that one and it got lost in history. I've had lots growing up, but my first in this collection is my Pulsar VJX Quartz given to me as a gift.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My Tag Heur Link was a gift from my wife for my 50th. My first real luxury watch.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Consider what you like about watches and follow your own path, not what you think you should collect based on other people's views. If you like it you'll wear it.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
I have looked at and recently bought some affordable watches from Casio, Baltany, Sea-Gul, Pagani and Steeldive. But also a couple of micro-brands such as AVI-8, Straton, Christopher Ward, Cestrian and Sherwood. At the more luxury end I have added Longines too.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph, because of the understated superiority of the brand and the technicality behind the design.
