New Sinn U50 Hydro

What are your thoughts on the new Sinn U50 Hydro?

Oil filled quartz with 5000m water resistance!!! All in the compact U50 design.

Personally I miss the U50 hand set, other than that it is a beast!!!

I have GSG9 UX, and if I didn't have it - I would buy this one.

UX is a beast, both by specs but also by size and weight. I can wear it only on rubber strap honestly. This should be much more viable option to be worn on bracelet.

Also, edit: U50 Hydro seems to have lower grade movement - while UX has ETA 955.652 chronometer flatline movement, U50H has some seemingly Ronda movement. That's a pitty - for me personally at least, high precision quartz movement was a selling point for UX.

Pretty sweet. Just bought a U50, the automatic version and I prefer the original handset. The lumed dial is pretty cool but the added WR of the hydro isn't important to me. Also, they're a bit expensive in my mind. I do like the textile strap the hydros are available on.

Why is sinn teasing me like this? I keep saying I would buy the U50 if they put their sword hands on it, but they changed it to an expensive quartz model. Just give me your damn sword hands as an option on the U50, sinn!

This marks their second U50 based watch with the sword hands I want but something else that disqualifies it when combined with the price. The T50 is cool, but I don't want to pay such a premium for a titanium case that I don't even prefer over the submarine steel case, just to get the sword hands.

If I ever decide I want to spend this much on a quartz watch that I'd have to send somewhere special for battery changes due to the oil, I might get this, but I'm just not sure that's going to happen.

I wonder what sinn customer service would say to me if I asked them to put sword hands on a U50 for me, lol.

I didn't know they used a different movement, thanks for that info 👍. Have you had to do a battery change yet? If so have you had any issues? The UX is a serious beast of a watch!!!

Yes I like the auto. It is really thin too. I personally prefer the hand on the OG U50. The hydro would be a great grab and go.

Neither did I - I literally went to check while writing my comment. It occurred to me they didn't exactly advertise the movement loudly and I wondered why.

I didn't yet need to replace the battery, but I am living in Germany so that is not such a big deal when time comes. For a watch enthusiast, it's kind of a privileged position to live in Germany or Switzerland; servicing and replacing your timepieces if something goes wrong is a breeze 😀

Haha there is no such thing as the perfect watch, although it does make you think sometime, do the designers do this on purpose 😄. I would to see them be more adventurous with the colour of the U50.

Love the look and clarity. I don’t mind a good quartz, but I’m not sold on the idea of the hydro and it’s service requirements. I’ve also read reports about air bubbles creeping into the case which requires the watch to go to Germany. I love my U50 and its handset. No need for me to change anything on it. 👍

Yeah if I had the original U50 I think I would stick with that too 👍

I like the Minecraft handset, these are a little dull in comparison. Oil filled could be cool, mostly for the view of the dial. I don't care a jot about 5,000m water resistance, 100m is already overkill. But you have to send the oil filled back to Sinn for a battery change. So at the end of the day, I think I'd still go for the original. I am kind of keen on it, though I don't know if I will ever actually get one.

Honestly, I wish I could use a rugged diver more often. If I could, this would be at the top.

·

I'm for it. Been on fence of trying to grab a u50 this year

·

The hands do look a bit out of place...interesting choice by Sinn.

I wonder if this will get any real pros to buy Sinn. The tech sounds cool but not sure I'd it's practical for everyone...

·

I get why it’s a quartz but if it was an auto without the bubble for £2k I’d have been interested.

Go for it, I don't think you will be disappointed👍

I don't need this kind of bad influence!

·

I love the sword hands, have been waiting for them on the u50…

·

Personally I do like the block hands of the original U50 but I understand why they changed them to sord hands, to match the UX.

·

I really want one. And I think I would take this over the normal U50. However, I've read a few things that don't make me too excited. It's expensive, almost up there with some Tudors. The quartz movement isn't that special, -10/+20 seconds per month from the Ronda data sheet. If it was truly high accuracy then I'd be more interested.

I don't think that's true. Because the 5000m is based on the battery compartment. The case can take 12000m because of the oil. From what I've read about Sinn Hydro models (they've been out for a while) they are user serviceable.
