This was covered recently in Hodinkee and I went ahead and ordered on Amazon. The author makes some beautiful bespoke watches but this isn’t so much about her as it’s about a history of timekeeping. This is a fun read though I’m moving through it fairly slow and if you’re interested in early horological history more so than specific brands this is a worthy pickup.
If there are some other books about the history of watches let me know. Some of it is rather interesting.

I’m reading through this one now and enjoying it.
