Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

Like most, my dad got me into watches. He has gotten me a few watches over the course of my life but of course only the ones after high school have managed not to be lost (luckily they were only Casios and a Mickey Mouse watch that have been lost). Now I think I’m more into watches than he is, but glad we can both appreciate some great watches and always have some gift ideas from straps to fun watches.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

The first watch I owned was my dad’s old Casio World Timer. At the time thought it was so cool with the map and being beat up like an actual tool. Sad that it’s now lost, but maybe will be adding one to the collection (and maybe with a Vario strap if I’m gonna treat myself 😂)

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

Not too interesting of a story, but at 25 I decided I wanted to work with my dad to turn his business into a family business. with that, I decided I wanted to get one of my “grail watches”. While looking at a grey market shop, I saw a JLC revsero that I’d been eyeing for sometime. With a chunk of money I had saved for the occasion (and the help of my GF), I pulled the trigger and now will always have a reverse of some sort in my collection (and I have no problem with that 😌

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Start with cheap affordable watches. Although you may want the Rolex or have the money for a luxary watch, getting Seikos, micro brands, etc let you appreciate the higher end watches you’ll probably still end up getting (IMO). Also, make sure to wait a few days (if not more) when you see a watch you want. For me, I see a watch I want to add to the collection every other day 😅

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

Three brands I’ve been looking at a lot are Oris, Longine, and GO. I’m impressed by the value you get from these three brands and they definitely pack a ton of value for what you pay for! Been eyeing the Oris Pro Pilot X Skeleton, Longine Spirit Zulu Time, and the GO PanomaticLunor (green dial) 🫠

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

I’d say I have a few grail watches and there are probably a few that get added (and some get removed) over the years. The ones that have stayed on the list for a while now have been the JLC reverse dual face (or the new chronograph 🤤), MontBlanc star legacy nicolas rieussec chronograph, Ulysse Nardin Freak, Rolex Day Date yellow gold, Cartier Tank Louis (or the Crash, but that’s not happening 😂), GO Panomaticlunar (green dial), and the Vacheron Constantin 1921. There are a few more that come and go but those above are the ones that’ll probably always be on the list (and some are actually attainable 🥳).
