commented onMontblanc watches… what do you think?·
Last week, after considering a GMT for some time, I bought a Montblanc 1858 GMT in blue. I had admired it on line for a couple of months but when seeing it in the metal non of the images I have seen do it justice, the coiour of the blue on the dial is stunning. The finishing is excellent and I love the etched caseback.
In a restaraunt last night the waiter asked me what I had on my wrist, OK he was a watch enthusiast but the Montblanc is the first watch I have ever been asked about and complemented on.
I still have one of the black ones with black case, black dial, black hands and black strap. My wife bought it for my birthday in 1986. It's not on the original strap anymore and I haven't worn it for years but I put a new battery in it and it still works.
I think the fact that it's still working after 38 years is very impressive. She bought me a quartz TAG Huerer dive watch in 2005 and that had to have a new movement in 2019. I have no criticsm of the TAG but it obviously cost many times more than the Swatch.
I think that Leonov wore a Strela chronograph on the first spacewalk. It's next to my Bulova Lunar Pilot in the photograph below. I also have a Sturmanskie Gagarin.
