Always liked watches - it was a latent hobby made viable by the internet and eBay.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Seiko lady's diver my father bought for me on a business trip in the Far East in 1975. I was 8. We used to snorkle together back then, so I really loved it. Crystal came off in the bathtub the first night :) I am pretty sure now it was a knock-off made in China, back before their watch industry became so proficient.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
Yes - I found an eBay special from Argentina for $103 way back when, one of my first forays where I took an educated leap based on research and a fuzzy photo. It turned out to be an 18kt red gold Girard Perregaux, cased in Argentina, with an inscription on the back from a famous Peronist Minister.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Find a good watchmaker!
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
San Martin
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
I own it - 1960 IWC in red gold. Platonic ideal of a time-only dress watch with a beautiful, robust and precise Caliber 89. An apex predator watch from the Golden Age of watches - and honest, simple but high quality piece that even the common man might aspire to purchase.
