Q: How did you get into watch collecting?
One of my employers is an avid watch collector, and seeing his collection spurred my interest in dipping my toes into the world of Watch Collecting. My first buy was a YEMA NavyGraf, and after that- I was hooked.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
My watch that followed me around for college was a "Going off to college" Skagen i got as a gift 😅
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My Grandpa's day-date has a particularly interesting tale that's a bit too long to type up here. Sufice to say it involves Hong Kong, US Customs, and a trip to Switzerland :D
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
The AD game generally isn't worth it for high desire models. Luck out and you'll find an AD who will take your considerations and get you what you want. Find an AD who doesn't care and tries to milk you and it'll leave a bad taste about this hobby. I've run into both kinds of AD's - the game generally only matters if you want a particular high demand piece.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
AP's Code 11 lineup is really speaking to me right now design wise. Smaller case sizes and i'd be sold. Dislike the Royal Oak: wish AP would focus on genuine High Horology. Laurent Ferrier and Greubel Forsey - the latter is likely unobatnium for me in this lifetime: but man. What a display of artisanry they both put on!
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
A Les Cabinotiers custom piece from Vacheron Constantin. A custom 1/1 Perpetual calendar built to my specifications with a Marine Tourbillion. Ability to convert into both a pocket watch and a desk clock would be essential for the piece as well.
