True. That said, and politics aside, I do like the old hand winding Molijna movements (as opposed to Vostok) - including the new 3603 in their Molnija Green Ray 2.0.
Depends on the make, mod, modder and your personal tastes I suppose. Some folks are mad for Seiko mods. For me I like ones that use old pocket watch movements or, funnily enough, the Eastern European and Russian modders like you mention. This one from a modder on Etsy.
At a glance the Maranez Talay really jumps out as an easy win. Only when you look closer, for longer, you appreciate all the great details on the others. But its interesting to see how watch compliments come in during our day to day - at a glance.

Light faces go better with dark straps IMHO. So I would budget for a few dark straps and go with the cream dial. Dont know if he's a swimmer or something, which would affect your strap choices.

Ha, brilliant. I'd take a punt on some Lobinni's. Otherwise though you are much better off going direct to the supplier websites for Seagull/ Sugess etc.
