Everybody’s approach to collecting is different, to some it’s like completing a page in a stamp album (every Rolex from 1970 to 1980 etc), for some a brand or type like dive or pilot, and for some resale/investment is key. Having started collecting later than many, a watch that I like and enjoy wearing is primary. I like a watch that has a connection to something or some unique or distinctive quality, limited addition, commemorative, relation to an historical event, complication, dial or case material. Be eclectic and have fun!
I find I have about a quarter of my watches in a sort of semi organized rotation. It’s funny, sometimes I will look at a watch that I never wear and seeing it new again I will put it on and wear it for a week! But I do feel guilty seeing that Bulova all alone:(
I have three main cases, the traditional more well known names, military, mostly vintage, and the independent/micro brands which works well. Breaking down further gets too confusing.
