The one I wish that I could buy again

The Dietrich SD-1 is remarkable both for what it is as much as for what it isn't.

It is one of the last model created by Dietrich and in it I can find a lot of elements typical to their design, such as the organic looking handset and the hexagon motif that appear on the bracelet and to a lesser degree on the bezel as well.

And then there are the other little things, such as the sapphire lumed fish insert on the crown, the refraction of light through the sapphire bezel's insert, the indices and text that appears to be floating above the sapphire dial, and the extraordinary finish of the bracelet.

It's a watch that manage to be unique without overdoing it and looking ostentatious.

Dietrich could have upped the WR rating, bulked the case, add crown guards and launch it as a diver's but they did none of these things and kept the simple slim design of a 60's skin diver. It's an elegant and understated watch that can be worn by those who want to wear something as bit unusual without drawing too much attention to themselves.

And it's also unfortunately no longer available. Dietrich closed its operation last year. The SD-1 is no more and unless someone else steps in, there won't be something similar on the market and it's a real pity because this type of watch deserves a better future.

Beautiful watch dude! I love their handsets, dials, and how the bracelet subtly references the shapes on the dial, in an organic, unforced way.

Wait, I remember when this came out and didn’t pull the trigger. They shut down? do you know what happened?

I don't know anything beyond the note they left on their web site. Sometime things don't turn like they were expected to be and not every brand is able to survive.

I think they have some discussions going on on their FB page.

It had me at 'crosshairs'. Nice.
