Are you a brand buyer or a watch buyer

Hi all.. as a british watchmaker i find it very sad that in 2022 most people still buy a watch for its brand name and not for the joy of the watch its...

Have to say my no time to die is one of the most comfortable watches i have ever worn!!! Titanium case is a fab piece of work. I really struggle working titanium … great watch 😀😀

Firstly most of the price you pay on nearly all of the well known brands is used for marketing ,example being rolex whose retail price is so badly divided as little as 5% is the covering cost of the watch. As for thingslike 904l steel its no more expensive in real terms as 316. We use 904 inour watches and its very small portion of the manufacturing costs. My watches cost thousands because they take many hours to make the material costs are the smallest costs even the top end movements only represent a small part of the end cost to the buyer !! If you want the best bang for your buck the only place you should look is the small independent makers who are genuinely making them themselves in their own workshops. Avoid 90% of the microbrands as they all use the same generic Chinese manufacturers and if you really genuinely want to buy a rolex because you think its a good watch and you are not just buying it because it’s a Rolex then your conscience is clear. Its a very fickled market that is almost totally brand driven so choose carefully. Most of my buyers visit and view and discuss their watch and enjoy the process of having a unique watch that has been made for them just like a saville row suit. Lastly from your post it sounds like you are a long way off deciding your next watch lol 😀😀

Love the case and crown, just that little bit different and a very well balanced design !!! Not so keen on the dial though i find the intersecting lines fight with the curves of the case. Just an opinio though ,i am sure it will foy off the shelves as this style and brave colours look like being the next big trend…nice job😀😀😀

Just had a look at titans website, they are definately not the fifth largest watch maker, they are maybe the largest in india. The watches on their site are very low cost items that are of very questionable quality that are produced very cheaply in very high numbers to cater for the fashion wearer rather than any collector.

Cant possibly be numberive !!! I can think of many brands that are clearly better known, have to say having been in the watch industry for quite a while now its not a brand that even springs to mind 🤪🤪its a nice looker though just that hour thing is just annoying. I have looked at making similar movement changes to produce quirky watches but have always ruled it out from a cost over return basis. I have dreamt of building either a retrograde or wandering hands watch for ages but the cost to do it without involving far eastern help is just mad. As a true british maker the costs to create new and innovative watches is very cost prohibitive.. regards rob 😀

Nice looking piece, but the hour wheel is annoying as its running opposite to how the brain reads time. Hence the price as creating the gear etc to get it running in the right direction would be a costly exercise for a microbrand…
