The Wishlist - A Justification to Myself

Just another brain dump, feel free to skip this one...

I think we all have different ways of collecting. I know that I can be impulsive, so to curb that I have a wishlist. The idea is that nothing is bought as soon as I see it, everything goes on the list and sits there for a few months as a cooling off period. Then it's ranked against other potential purchases. After a while it may slip off the list, or get bought. Or it can just sit there for a while in the queue.

I keep my list on the same app that I keep my watches, but with only a few fields:

If I feel the itch to buy then I can go to the list and see what's available in each price bracket. (I'm trying not to buy for the next few months.)

The number of watches on the list fluctuates. It has been near 50, but is currently down to a couple of dozen. Most are inexpensive.

  • 13 <£300

  • 5 <£500

  • 3 <£1k

  • 3 <£2k

  • 0 >2k

Also 8 of them aren't readily available, so I can convince myself that my list is really 16.

  • 7 Difficult to find

  • 1 Not yet released

... and another couple are on the cusp of being dropped, another is a clock, and two are stopwatches. So I'm really under a dozen.

That's not too bad... I tell myself.
