New or Used?

Hey Watch Chrunch,

What is your experience buying Seiko Prospex, is it worth it to buy new?

Or buy from Chrono24 or eBay from trusted seller/ authenticated for between $550-650 USD.

New from Sakura in Japan, box and papers for about $850 USD incl. shipping.

It’s not a big price difference. I’ve never bought used, but I’m willing to give it a try if low risk.

Thanks,

Charles

I like buying used as long as the watch is in like new condition.

If you definitely know you’ll never sell it, I’d go new. Otherwise my motto has historically been “let someone else eat the depreciation!”

As much as I like the stock strap on this model, I found myself switching it out a lot. Save yourself the (inevitable) cost of an aftermarket strap & go for used if you can. That’ll leave a little extra on the side for you.

I prefer buying used watches if I’m just adding to my collection arbitrarily. It’s usually because I don’t plan on keeping those watches long term, just enjoy them for a while. Any watch I tie to a life event or similar I buy new. The only thing about Sakura watches is I think if you want to use the warranty then the watch goes back to Japan

Always buy used myself. Willard RRP £1000ish, paid £500. Brown 147 RRP similar & paid £600...

I personally think the Seiko Prospex is the best Seiko line and have bought a few of them. I’m not opposed to buying second hand but if I can I’ll buy new, especially if the price difference isn’t too big.
