GPHG nominations question

Folks, if a brand enters a particular variation of their watch (I'm referring to color, metal but not complications) into GPHG but that watch comes in multiple color and case material variations (SS vs Ti vs bronze for example), and that watch gets short-listed or actually wins an award, does that award also apply to the sister watches? I mean, obviously, the brand cant enter the entire line into the contest, right? So they enter a particular watch, say a bronze case with a brown dial or SS case with a blue dial (like this year's challenger prize winner CW Bel Canto). Is the honoh of being short-listed or the prize exclusive to that particular variant or the entire line can claim it?

I think that on the one hand, a watch shouldn't be singled out purely based on the color of its dial (unless that dial is some super duper michael-angelo/picasso/van Gogh-created enamel-shmenamel-mosaic unique masterpiece). But on the other hand, the dial is a part of the overall aesthetic of the watch, right? The same argument could be applied to metals... (I am specifically excluding drastically different case materials such as ceramic or carbon which in addition to having totally different textile experience also changes the looks of the watch).

What's your take on this? Can every owner of the Bel Canto claim that their watch is an award winner or is the honor exclusively theirs who owns the dark blue dial variant?

I don't think the dial colour matters. The award is for the creation of the watch itself. A bit like the title Oscar Winning Actor, whilst the film it's won for is important the money asked by the winner goes with him irrespective of his next film being a turkey.

This logic more applies to the brand when it crates the next watch - i.e., GPHG winning brand. But I am referring to the bragging rights of a particular model watch. For example, this year Blue Dial Bel Canto won so it is an award-winning watch. Yes, CW becomes an award-winning brand. But the CW12 watch is NOT an award-winning watch. The question is, does today's victory make the green-dial, the black-dial, the rose-dial bel cantos also award-winning watches. Again, I think the design (of which the color scheme has to be a part) plays a part in the award decision.

Unless the entry won because the brand created an entirely new color, then yes, it applies to all colorways IMO.

The winning tech or overall design is in every version.

I would say that Christopher Ward will have award winning in their description of the Bel Canto irrespective of the dial colour. I think it's safe to say you can wear yours with award winning pride.

I'm still waiting 😀 patiently ...

See good things happen to those who wait... now when it arrives, it will be all that more special!

Since the watch that wins get judged as the specific item, and not the model line, i think the honor only counts for that specific variant alone. But really, in my opinion if i grab a different color or material of the same watch, i could still say a variant of this watch won at the gphg, but i like this color/material more so i bought this one instead. I guess it would only matter to watch nerds anyway, of which there are none in my local friends circle.
