Hands on with the new Seiko Prospex 62MAS, improving on the SPB143 with the SPB451, SPB453 & SPB455
I'm super excited to get hands on with all new models from the Seiko Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s Watch collection. The SPB451, SPB453 & SPB455 divewatch. With all the new updates, did the SPB143 just get better ? Is this still the best looking diver on the market and the best affordable alternative to the Rolex submariner in terms of looks ? What about that new date position on the dial? In this video I am taking a closer look at all dial colours & we are doing some side by side comparison shots with my Seiko SPB143.

While I appreciate all the tiny improvements to the case dimensions and the bracelet for "only" an additional 100€ over the previous models, to me this date window position is a deal breaker. I much prefer the first and second generations SPB143 with a 3 o'clock date window respecting the symmetry of the dial. Even if no date at all would be my preference.
I also prefer the SPB143 bezel numerals stretching the entire width of the bezel rather than this new design with dots all around the bezel squishing the numerals.
Maybe these visual changes were made in compliance with ISO requirements, but for my desk diver usage and aesthetics preferences they are a downgrade to the SPB143.
Got a spb147 ( brown dial gilt indices) & I much prefer the date placement on these new ones, because it's far less visible & easier to ignore. Just wish they'd get rid of the date altogether tbh.
Very nice. I love how the very forward and modern date window position gifts us perfectly symmetrical markers at 3, 6 and 9. We have been making do with missing markers at 3 for a long time, and the shorter marker in the 2nd gen of the 143 was a very visible compromise in my opinion.
The new watches generally look to be a refinement of an already great watch. The only thing I hate about it is the "Automatic 3 Days" line. They could have lined the text up and removed the words "3 days".
They should next come up with a traveler gmt version of this series.

Oh I love this watch, although I wished they had a radial blue. The green is a trendy colour now, but for the long run, blue would keep better.
