Nato Strap Question

I just bought a new watch with a 21mm lugs. Will a 22mm nato strap fit it? Thanks.

It will but not great. The strap may not lay flat passing through the lugs. I'd rather use a slightly smaller strap than one that's slightly too large.

Check out Crown & Buckle. They're my go-to for NATOs, and they offer 21mm! Not as many as 20 or 22mm, mind you, but still a good enough assortment that I'm sure you'll see something you like.

Yes. Depending on thickness of strap it might bunch a little.

Same is true for a 20mm, again depending on thickness it might look too small or more ok.

Crown and Buckle does quite a few 21mm. And a lot of the NOS MN style straps are actually made to fit 20-22mm for some reason.

You could also get some curved springbars in 21 to help the 22mm fit.

20 and 22mm straps in general will work within a 21mm lug spacing, at least in my experience.

As #solidyetti said, it's strap dependant and the only way to ascertain which strap and witch width works best on your watch is through experimentation.

Perlon straps work well due to their relatively loose weave and thinness.

But ... if you're going to wear it on a fabric often it's probably best to buy one in 21mm. They're around.

Yes, but why not buy the right size.

Yes, but why not buy the right size.

21mm straps are not nearly as plentiful in colors as 20 & 22. Just keeping my options open. 👍🏻

In my experience, they fit no problem, particularly if they are not too thick. Also in my experience, you will see that it doesn't lay quite flat alongside one of the lugs (it'll lay nicely alongside the other lug) but after 5 minutes on the wrist you forget about it.

I hope you get along well with it if you do try. 👍

They have all sorts of NATO straps. I've bought three batches from them and am thrilled with the products. (the start of my journey down the rabbit hole as an active watch enthusiast is relatively recent). I swap NATOs on my daily driver Seiko SRPG35 almost every day.

They're out of Sweden so delivery can be a little sluggish, but worth the wait!

I took your advice and bought a bunch of straps, for three different watches, from CNS. They had a large selection of 21mm straps and a great sale on nato straps.

I changed out two watches today that both came on black rubber straps.

Nice! They look great!

A strap swap is so easy and can totally breathe new life into a watch. Sometimes, like these two you're showing, they can really look amazing!

Thanks for the update. 😃

Enjoy!
