A friend of my at work really enjoyed watching a Shop NBC show. I watched also and we got hooked on buying Invicta and Croton watches. Back then I did not know mechanical watches were still being created. I thought they were amazing and had to have some. Since that time, a dozen years ago, I never purchased another quartz watch. We both spent way too much money buying the “deal of the day” watch on those shop at home shows.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
When I was a kid a got some sort of plastic red LED digital display watch. Not sure what make.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My uncle’s Hamilton was gifted to me from his daughter when she saw on social media that I had a watch collection. It is a small watch manufactured in 1947 in Lancaster PA.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Don’t do what I did. I purchased a bunch of watches for under $200. Many were just the same with alternative dial colors. They had no resale value, so eventually I just gave them away. Now I only buy one watch a year. I research that one watch for months and I know the one I choose will have some interesting qualities I will value for many years.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Longines and Tudor
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Martin Braun Selene Automatic Moon Phase Calendar With Meteorite Dial. It is the most beautiful watch I have ever seen.
